Aaron von Ehlinger, ex-Idaho lawmaker, arrest warrant issued on rape charges
BOISE (Idaho). — An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Idaho lawmaker who resigned in disgrace after a 19-year-old intern reported that he brought her to his apartment on false pretenses and raped her.
The Ada County arrest warrant for rape, sexual penetration with foreign objects and rape is almost five months after Aaron von Ehlinger ,, a Republican from Lewiston resigned from Idaho House of Representatives. An ethics committee determined he ought to be formally censured because of his behaviour.
The investigation into von Ehlinger began March when the young staffer reported he raped her , after they had dinner at Boise’s restaurant. Von Ehlinger denies all wrongdoing. He maintained consensual sexual contact.
The woman told Legislative leadership about the rape allegations. She her first day back at work following the incident. She testified before the legislative ethic committee, despite being harassed by von Ehlinger’s supporters as well as some of her fellow legislators.
Attempts to get in touch with von Ehlinger to make a comment were unsuccessful.
Erika Birch, an attorney, filed a tort claim against the state earlier this month on behalf of the woman, which is the first step towards filing a lawsuit according to an Idaho Reports story.
