America celebrates heroes, mourns losses on 20th anniversary of 9/11 attacks

Americans from first responders to former presidents spent Saturday honoring the heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and mourning those who died to remember the 20th anniversary of America’s darkest day.

President Biden first lady Jill Biden joined the crowd at the site where two planes crashed into the World Trade Center.

More than 2 ,753 office workers and first responders were killed in the attacks on Lower Manhattan.
The solemn service featured the traditional readings of victims’ names during the five-hour ceremony.

To commemorate the attacks, six moments of silence took place, starting at 8: 46 a.m. That was the time al Qaeda terrorists crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Mike Low, who lost his daughter, Sara, on Sept. 11, 2001, spoke after a moment of silence calling the site where the World Trade Center once stood “a quiet place of memory.’

Sara Low was a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11.

“History should not be viewed as a series of dates and numbers, but as the faces ordinary people. He said that Sara was a lot like people who looked like him.

Mr. Biden was present with former Presidents Obama, Clinton and several other national and New York dignitaries.

Bruce Springsteen performed an acoustic rendition of his song “I’ll See You In My Dreams .”


At the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave a hopeful vision for the future of the United States.

Mr. Lloyd recalled the anniversary at Saturday’s Pentagon ceremony and said that it was “our responsibility” to recall the events of two decades ago.

The secretary also spoke about the unknown future challenges, but promised a ready nation for any eventuality.

“We cannot know what the next 20 years will bring,” Mr. Lloyd said. We don’t know what new dangers they might pose. “We cannot predict what Churchill once called the ‘originality of malice’. But, we know that America will always be the leader .”


In Shanksville, Pennsylvania, former President Bush and Vice President Harris honored the 40 brave souls who valiantly stopped four hijackers from cashing United Airlines Flight 93 into another target.
The crew and passengers of United Airlines flight 93 fought back against the hijackers. All were killed when their plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.

” The crew and passengers of Flight 93 should always be honored,” Mr. Bush stated. “Here, the intended target became the instrument of rescue. Many of us who are alive today owe an immense, unconscious debt to those who flew in the sky above this field .”

Ms. Harris stated that the heroism displayed by Flight 93, is a reflection on the American people.

” What happened on Flight 93 is a lesson for us all. The courage shown by those who sacrificed everything to save their lives. The determination of first responders who took every risk. She spoke about the resilience of the American people.”

Mr. Biden joined later those who gathered in the field where the plane crashed into the ground to place a wreath.

He later spoke out about the importance memorials when he visited a Shanksville fire station.

” These memorials are very important. They are also extremely difficult for those affected because it brings back their phone call and the moment they received the news,” said the president.

He applauded Mr. Bush’s speech, and encouraged the nation to unite.

“Are we going to, in the next four, five, six, 10 years, demonstrate that democracies can work, or not?” he asked.

Mr. Biden rounded out the day by placing a wreath at The Pentagon. He was accompanied by the first Jill Biden , Mrs. Harris, the second gentleman Doulas Ehoff, Mr. Austin and Mr. Milley.

While this was happening, the former President Trump paid a surprise visit in New York . to officers of the police department. He honored their work, before ripping Mr. Biden‘s withdrawal from Afghanistan, a conflict launched in response to the 9/11 attacks.
