
Brockton celebrates 70th anniversary of Marciano-Louis bout
BROCKTON (Mass.). (AP) — Brockton celebrates the 70th Anniversary of Rocky Marciano’s fight against Joe Louis, a heavyweight bout.
The entire eight-round match will air in its entirety at West Middle School’s auditorium on Tuesday, June 6, according to a city statement.
Mayor Robert F. Sullivan, will pay tribute to members of Marciano’s family and host a discussion on the fight.
Marciano, 27, was a rising star in the heavyweight category when he entered the Madison Square Garden arena on Oct. 26, to face Louis who was 37 trying to make a comeback after his retirement.
Marciano won the eighth round by TKO to end Louis’s career.
The event is open to all and is free of charge.
