Joe Biden uses ‘OK’ gesture liberals denounce as white supremacist in CNN town hall
President Biden made what liberals call a white supremacist dog whistle at Thursday’s CNN town hall meeting.
A question was posed to Mr. Biden about the “fair share” tax burden on corporations and rich individuals. He also mentioned that not all corporations pay zero tax.
He emphasized his point by inhaling the word “zero” while placing his right hand in a circle.
Many left-leaning analysts have called the gesture a white supremacist symbol. It is commonly used to signify “zero” or “OK”. These analysts have also seized on its use by mainstream Republican politicians as well as nondescript civilians, claiming it to be prima-facie evidence that racism.
For example, longtime Republican legal operative Zina Bash, while sitting behind Judge Brett Kavanaugh during his 2018 confirmation hearings twice had her fingers making the “OK” sign, prompting days of speculation about racist dog-whistling.
A prominent liberal Twitter influencer Amy Siskind said that Judge Kavanaugh should be disqualified for her gesture.
In another , Minnesota State Sen. Roger Chamberlain made the same “zero” gesture during debate on a school funding bill to emphasize his opposition to money going to specific ends.
But state Senator Omar Fateh (a Democrat) said that “we know this is a symbol of white power. We know that Senator Chamberlain is very interested in fascist media and literature. Roger Chamberlain is well aware that this is the white power symbol .”
In 2019, the Anti-Defamation League added the “OK” sign to its list of white-supremacist signs.
