Robert Durst hospitalized with COVID-19, his lawyer says

LOS ANGELES (AP) – New York real estate heir Robert Durst, who days ago was sentenced in a two-decade-old murder case, has been hospitalized after contracting COVID-19, his lawyer said Saturday,

Defense Lawyer Dick DeGuerin stated he was informed that Durst had been admitted after being positive for the coronavirus. DeGuerin said he didn’t know Durst‘s condition and was trying to find out more details.

Durst, 78, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without a chance of parole for the murder of his best friend more than two decades ago. Durst ,, who has multiple medical issues, sat in an electric wheelchair with a catatonic gaze during the majority of the sentencing hearing.

He was very, very sick in the courtroom,” DeGuerin said Saturday.

He Was convicted by Los Angeles Superior Court of first-degree murder in December for shooting Susan Berman in the back of her head at her house in December

The murder had been a mystery for 15 many years before Durst was taken into custody in 2015 after his rash decision to take part in a documentary which uncovered new evidence and captured him making a shocking confession.

DeGuerin said Thursday that Durst will appeal.
