MANCHESTER (AP) — Cristiano Rojo is creating more history in the Champions League.

The Portugal striker played for Manchester United against Villarreal Wednesday to make his record 178th appearance at the competition. Ronaldo was sharing the appearance record at Real Madrid with Iker Casillas.

Ronaldo was a player in the Champions League in 2003, his first time at United.

He has also set a new record by scoring 135 goals during the competition. Two weeks ago, United lost 2-1 to Young Boys.
